Adapting to Global Audiences
With performances in diverse locations, Frox emphasizes the importance of preparation. “It’s all about keeping up to date with current trends and researching the countries where you’re playing. Understanding what’s popular, looking at other DJs on the lineup, and blending your own style with tracks the audience recognizes is key.”
The Most Unforgettable Gig
With so many high-profile shows, what stands out the most? “Probably playing in front of 15,000 people at the Holi Music Festival in Brazil. That was insane.” The energy of such a massive crowd is something few DJs get to experience, and for Frox, it remains one of the most exhilarating moments of his career.
Cruise Ships vs. Clubs & Festivals
Performing on a cruise ship brings unique challenges. “It’s all about having multiple genres on hand for requests and playing to a mixed-age crowd, from 18 to 60. Dance remixes of well-known classics work great in these settings.” Unlike festivals or club gigs, where the crowd is usually there for a specific genre, cruise ship performances require versatility and a broader musical selection.
Industry Recognition & Staying Motivated
Despite receiving support from industry giants like Tiësto, Oliver Heldens, and Fedde Le Grand, Frox remains grounded. “Honestly, it doesn’t change much. It’s great to get noticed, but at the end of the day, it’s about hard work. You have to keep doing what you love and pushing forward.”
Music Production & DJing Synergy
His latest track is set to drop on Heldeep, and for Frox, production starts with a “killer chord progression and melody. Then the rest just kind of fits into place. Once I get a great chord progression and melody then my creativity comes out by thinking it would sound great with this drum loop, fine-tuning automation, or by adding and layering sounds”
While his DJ sets don’t necessarily shape his productions, the reverse is true: “Wouldn’t say my tracks influence my DJ sets. It’s probably the other way around as preparing for a set and dropping my tracks at the right time. ”
The Reality of Touring
Touring internationally is no easy feat. The biggest challenge? “Lack of sleep and jet lag—it’s a killer. You land, go straight to soundcheck, check into the hotel for a quick rest, then back out to play. Nothing a quick vodka and red bull can’t sort out haha”
How Venues Can Best Support DJs
For Frox, social media plays a huge role in promoting gigs. “Venues and promoters tagging you and spreading the word online make a big difference. Once you’re booked, they handle most of the social content, which helps a lot.”
Controlling the Crowd at Large-Scale Events
Playing to thousands of people requires careful planning. “Preparation is everything—having your tracks in order, and keeping a set of 10-20 classic crowd-pleasers just in case. Once the crowd is into it, they take care of themselves, and then I have a great time too.”
Must-Have DJ Gear
Every DJ has their essential gear, and for Frox, it’s his Shure SE215 in-ear monitors. “I love them for DJing, and they’re great reference headphones for production. If my track sounds good on those, I know it’ll sound great everywhere.”
Best Compliment from a Fellow DJ
When asked about the most memorable feedback he’s received, Frox shares: “Pretty much that I nailed it and it was such a great performance. Other DJs often look shocked when I play alongside them because I love doing tricks, loops, and effects. It’s not about showing off—I just love the technical side of DJing and showcasing what the CDJs can do. That passion always comes across in my sets.”
